The brief for this lower-ground floor was a familiar one: take an underused basement level and turn it into the room the family actually lives in. Our clients wanted an open-plan kitchen and dining space with real daylight — not the compromise basements are known for.
New rooflights were cut in above the circulation spaces and shower room, so natural light reaches deep into the plan. The kitchen combines handleless fitted cabinetry with a full-height navy storage wall and open oak shelving, arranged around a polished granite island with breakfast-bar seating. Copper pendants and layered recessed lighting keep the space warm through the evening.
A new shower room completes the floor — a walk-in shower finished in large-format porcelain, lit from above by its own skylight. As with all of our below-ground work, damp-proofing and ventilation were engineered in from the start, so the finishes are built to endure as well as impress.
